The “Mediterranean diet” is a social practice based on a set of skills, awareness and tradition that extends from the landscape to the table in the Mediterranean basin, involving culture, cultivation, harvesting, fishing, conservation, production, preparation, cooking, and most importantly the particular way of consuming meals. This, alongside knowledge is associated with the rhythms of a seasonal calendar, characterised by nature and by religious or interrelated ceremonies. Determined by the Mediterranean climate, the Mediterranean diet as a lifestyle is apparent in festivals and celebrations, events that become a place of mutual gestures of recognition, hospitality, kindness, politeness, intergenerational transmission and intercultural dialogue.
